Like many beauty trends, light therapy started out as a treatment you could only get in a dermatologist’s office. But unsurprisingly, its popularity grew and before we knew it, light therapy masks that you can use at home became a thing.
LED light therapy involves exposing the skin to different wavelengths of light to treat various skin concerns—think anything from signs of aging to acne. "Light therapy helps boost the appearance of collagen and leaves the skin looking much brighter," says celebrity cosmetic dermatologist Dr. Simon Ourian of Epione Beverly Hills. "It has also been found to repair cell damage, kill bacteria, improve facial texture, reduce fine lines, and more."
When paired with potent products, like serums or essences, light therapy masks can make a noticeable difference in the look and feel of your skin. That said, don’t expect these masks to transform your skin overnight. "LED light therapy may not have very dramatic effects compared to other skin rejuvenation approaches, but it is painless and does not require any recovery time," Dr. Ourian adds.
If you're looking to give one a try, keep scrolling for our picks of the best LED light therapy masks on the market.
This medical-grade—and hands-free—mask needs just three minutes to give your skin a reboot. With a combo of 100 red LED lights and 62 blue LED lights, it does everything from smooth wrinkles to fight bacteria. Our favorite perk: The red lights stimulate collagen and elastin production, which means plumping up the look of thinning skin.
This wireless LED light therapy mask comes with full neck coverage and an app, which targets concerns like drooping, thinning skin, and uneven texture. With seven color lights, every issue you’ve ever faced can be improved upon. Reviewers love the flexibility of use—you can use the mask with no cords to worry about and it comes with a beautiful soft shell case that no other device offers.
This mask is an investment that keeps on giving. Simply put, it’s the ultimate anti-ager. It has 1070 powerful light-emitting diodes that increase collagen production, firm the skin, and decrease the look of fine lines and wrinkles. This one means serious business and also covers your neck with a attachable and detachable piece.
The most Jason-esque looking mask on the market that allows you to move around freely in the house. Jason would approve certainly! With 7 different wavelengths you can still address your skincare concerns while not breaking the bank. It's been a popular mask choice recently especially for first timers.
This mask, specifically created for your lips, helps to reduce the look of wrinkles, lines, creases, and loss of firmness. The red light increases circulation and enhances the skin’s tone, making this a great anti-aging tool. It’s also hands-free, thanks to the unique design which allows you to hold the product in place with your bite.
Suffer from dark circles and puffiness? These futuristic glasses have built-in LED lights to target those issues and more. After charging the device and applying your favorite eye cream or serum, simply hold the power button and strap the glasses in place. Set aside about 10 minutes a day, and you’re on your way to youthful-looking eyes.
Out of all the masks in our list, this one feels the most like a face mask, thanks to the soft silicone material. It molds right onto your unique face shape, distributing light to improve cell activity and reenergizing your skin. It includes near-infrared 830nm light—considered to be the most powerful of all wavelengths—which promotes healing and cell regeneration.
From first glance it looks like a razor but it's 100% a light therapy device. It's the most lightweight "wand" option on the market and it's also wireless. Notably they have two choices, one for red light and one for blue light therapy.
Yes your teeth just like your lips and neck are part of your face. If you've been drinking too much coffee and tea this might be for you. This kit activates the teeth whitening ingredients with light therapy. They have two different versions including their original kit and a wireless kit depending on your preferences.
You should definitely avoid the ones with microcurrents that shock your face as pictured and there are A LOT of them out there. Trust us, we been there and regret it. Not pleasant and obviously uncomfortable. You should also steer away from ones with clunky remotes and wires. These can be a royal pain to deal with. You want to go with the minimalistic approach here. But also not overly minimalistic like the face shield looking ones that are simply not powerful enough.
These aren't overnight miracle solutions but with consistent use Light therapy masks are a great way to help improve your appearance. Although the Dr. Dennis Gross SpectraLite is on the pricier side we do love this one if you're looking for only red and blue light treatment and quick sessions! This one is the easiest to use. If you're looking to cover the neck and have a do it all with 7 wavelengths, then the Cleopatra mask is your go for less than half of the price of the SpectraLite as of recently. Still easy to use but you got more options such as color and strength. Then you have your budget option with the RegenaLight which has similiar flexibility to the Cleopatra but lacks the neck. Finally you got your spage age Aluralight. This one works like a DREAM if you can afford it. All four got it nailed flawlessly for mobility! (thank the heavens)
RED LIGHT
If you're looking for anti aging then red light is your go to according to Alexander Wunsch and Karsten Matuschka (1) The Red wavelength has been shown to be especially effective in boosting collagen and elastin resulting in less wrinkles, inflamation, and reduced pores.
BLUE LIGHT
It's the tried and true acne fighter that kills bacteria that causes it in the first place. According to Keemss K (2) it has also been shown to be effective for reducing eczema.
COLOR FLEXIBILITY
We would argue that Red & Blue are a must. The other colors are optional but definitely nice to have for a wide array of skin conditions. Even having purple is nice because you're getting the benefits of red and blue in one session.
DESIGN
Not all masks are created equal. We value ease of use and wireless capabilities. Not to mention you want a mask that is going to be comfortable for you. Maybe you just got some eyebags and want to get rid of that only, then you should stick with glasses like the eyecare pro. It's entirely possible you've forgotten to take care of your neck in your morning and nighttime routines (guilty as charged) and need neck coverage. You already know the Cleopatra and Aluralight have you covered.

I'm a writer here at Reviewer Guide. My motto is to have fun with retail therapy and create lifetime experiences. I've managed to design my life to have the best of both worlds. Although half of those experiences are food which I'm definitely not mad about :)
